I was chatting to a neighbour a few weeks ago, while we were both out walking our dogs. We ended up talking about faith in God, related to finding strength and hope in life and some health issues she was struggling with. My neighbour believes in God and had been brought up in the Methodist tradition. I offered to pray with her, which she welcomed and it seemed so natural to pray with her on the street and ask God to help and heal her conditions.
I bumped into her again on Monday when she said “it must have been that prayer – I have been back and forwards to the doctors and they can’t work it out, but I seem to be better and they don’t know why”. She and I have both been lifted with encouragement that God has helped and healed her in this wonderful way. My prayer is that I can encourage her onwards in her faith and that she will continue talking to God, that it doesn’t end here.
Great! The more I hear stories like this I think to myself offering to pray for others should be our natural instinctive reaction to hearing about pain or difficulty of any kind… not quite there yet, but we’re working on it!
